Wishing to celebrate the momentous and historical moment of Poland's accession to the European Union, Gniezno, together with the Sports Club "Altom", on April 27, 2003 organized for the first time the "International Race of United Europe".
The main running event was preceded by preschoolers' run around the Gniezno market square, in which nearly 100 children of European photography [800x600] in preschool age took part. Over 120 runners took part in the main race, including the leaders of the country, the presidents of Gniezno and Poznań, and guests from Kenya, Belarus, Hungary, Germany, the Netherlands and Russia. The luminaire of the race was enriched by the presence of almost 2,000 spectators who added wings to runners during the competition on this attractive route (4 loops of 2.5 km in the city center). Since the fifth edition in 2007, the name of the event has been changed to "European Run". The 10-kilometer race has permanently entered the calendar of sporting events in the city of Gniezno and gathers a record number of participants at the start each year, including great Polish and foreign runners.
